The Skinny While his contemporaries choose low-key, knob-twisting passive-aggressive performances augmented by requisite backing videos, British producer Tom Jenkinson, a.k.a. Squarepusher, demands his audience's attention - screaming at them during and in between songs, jumping around wildly, and playing live bass. Early on, Jenkinson jumped from the little-known Spymania label to the infamous Rephlex records (Aphex Twin's label), where he released his first full-length, "Feed Me Weird Things." His affinity for chaotic jazz-influenced basslines and the utterly schizoid drum n' bass rhythms (which some call "drill n' bass"), won him a deal with Warp Records. LP "Hard Normal Daddy" followed soon. After delving briefly into a straight-jazz project that left listeners wondering where the electronics had gone, Squarepusher's summer 2001 full length, entitled "Go Plastic" sees him returning to his roots on tracks such as "My Red Hot Car" and "Go! Spastic."
The Crowd Long-time Warp label heads anxious to witness the man in his element.
