Autechre

The Skinny

Brits Sean Booth and Rob Brown, collectively known as Autechre, haven't simply made a name for themselves within the realm of "intelligent dance music" -- they've defined the scene. Autechre's early works, like the groundbreaking single "Basscadet," featured unconventional beats augmenting ethereal melodies, while more recent tracks lay chaotic rhythms over harshly textured soundscapes. Autechre's impressive body of work and its remixes of original material by everyone from Stereolab to Skinny Puppy have attracted a cult following in Europe and the United States. The release of its sixth full-length, "Confield" (Warp), sees a return to more familiar forms while incorporating the duo's staple of eclectic percussive elements.

The Crowd

An interesting mix of thrift-store junkies and tech-heads.
